Epilepsy And Pregnancy Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that most commonly occur in pregnancy. The death rate of neonates born to epileptic women 3 times more likely than the general population. Treatment of women with epilepsy who become pregnant are generally performed according to the same principles as in patients not pregnant.
According to the International League Against Epilepsy, epilepsy in pregnancy is divided into 3 groups who had suffered epilepsy before pregnancy, Gestational Termed Epilepsy, and Gestational Onset Epilepsy.
Women who suffer from epilepsy prior to pregnancy may experience a rise during pregnancy. This is due to the influence of hormonal changes, metabolic, psychological, and pharmacokinetics OAE.
Termed Gestational epilepsy Epilepsy is the first time that occur during pregnancy and continuing in subsequent pregnancies with the free generation in between pregnancies.
Gestational onset epilepsy Epilepsy is the first time that occur during pregnancy and continuing beyond the period of pregnancy.
